Two for two... almost

I'm not very good at following through on New Years Resolutions. At least this is something that I know... it's allowed me to make much more realistic resolutions over the past few years, like "just become a better version of myself now"... That seems to have worked, at least.

This year, perhaps we'll blame it on shot o'clock (a whole different blog in itself), but I was feeling ambitious and decided to make two REAL resolutions-- 1) to maintain this blog, which I (re)started for my great uncle, Bob, who was always a fan back in my CUP Spotlight Blogger days, and 2) to participate in a 5k. Even on January 1st of this year, I thought, "damnnnn, I'm crazy. I can't run, period... much less for 3.1 miles"... However, earlier today, I sent my check off in the mail to participate in my first 5k-- this Saturday.

A few weeks back, after weeks and weeks and weeks of consistent (fast paced) walking on the treadmill, I took a stab at this thing called running... (okay, it's probably better qualified as jogging... but it's something). Here and there, I've done a mile or two... as much as 3 miles ran over the course of a workout (combined with walking, of course). But on Saturday, I'm going to do it...

No, I will not run the entire 3.1 miles. I'm still afraid to run outside (why? I'm convinced that I'm unable to keep pace, much less survive, when not on a treadmill). However, I'm really looking forward to achieving the goal of participating in a 5k, and am aiming for a relatively decent score. Perhaps 5k-ing will become something I continue to participate in. Perhaps someday I'll finish with what everyone would consider a good time (simply finishing is probably not the best goal to give oneself)... perhaps I'll decide NEVER to do a 5K again... but, I'm going to do it, and I'm going to do it in a manner that doesn't leave me embarassed, unfinished, or unsatisfied...

Stay tuned for updates post-Saturday, and throughout the week as I cram in some "training" on the treadmill. Goal: to run at least 2 miles each day between now and Saturday morning. If I'm feeling spunky, I'll push myself more, and will definitely get more distance in by way of walking... but at least 2 miles a day of JOGGING.

Goals... they're good for life.
